Michler’s memoir describes the Saturday when fire was spread by high winds in eastern Minnesota, which was started by railroad engine sparks. The families were Oscar and Rosa Fichtner and Anton and Emilie Klosowsky. These people were the writer's great grand parents; her mother's family.
