The collection consists of 60 photographs of the town of Babbitt, Minnesota and the sinter plant of the Mesabi Iron Company.
The collection contains materials related to the Congdon family, including personal and business papers. The papers include: photographs; materials related to the Glensheen estate house, grounds, and staff; Chester Congdon's business, financial, and political papers; materials related to Chester Congdon's 1914 trip around the Pacific; personal correspondence; diaries; and publications and ephemera.
The collection contains land deeds in Aitkin, Crow Wing, Itasca, and St. Louis Counties, mining and timber leases, business letters, and labor contracts.
This collection contains papers pertaining to the history of the Mesabi and Vermilion Iron Range mines and mining companies, photographs of mine sites, drill holes, equipment and workers, newspaper clippings and advertisements from the Almar Iron Mining Company, and two letters about the Board of Trade.
The photographs document the utility and power plants of a variety of Duluth, Minnesota and Iron Range (Virginia, Hibbing, Ely) city buildings and schools. Other Minnesota and South Dakota city buildings are also documented. Some of the photographs are by professional Duluth photographer Hugh McKenzie.
This letter was written to Ross Campbell, the father of the donor of the letter, to Mr. E. J. (or T.) Griese who was apparently a supervisor in the mining area of Hibbing, Minnesota.
The collection contains financial records, leases, contracts, deeds, audits, correspondence, annual reports, articles of incorporation, stockholders' lists, and minutes about mining for a number of holding companies and subsidiaries of Higgins.
Historical Documentation Regarding Age of Pits, Dumps and Tailings Areas, Mesabi Iron Range, Minnesota report and research files
This report was prepared by the St. Louis County Historical Society, Duluth, Minnesota, for U.S. Bureau of Mines. The study was undertaken to inventory the pits, dumps, and tailings basins of the Mesabi Range and determine, where possible, the ages of these man-made topographic features, i.e. the date each dump or tailings basin was last disturbed by mining activity.
The prints are arranged in folders and identified by Mesabi, Vermilion, or unidentified ranges on the folder but some of the individual prints have more specific mine information on their reverse side: Adams Pit and headframe, Susquehanna mine, Hull-Rust-Mahoning mine, Cloquet mine, Auburn mine, Goodwins’ Iron Claim near Ely, Stephans mine.
The collection consists of one videocassette from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) entitled Building a Brighter Future.
The collection contains a time book listing the workers, their time, and daily pay.
The collection consists of one scrapbook containing newspaper clippings. Articles from local papers (Duluth, Hibbing, Eveleth) are about laws, rates, accidents, service, and developments, concerning Mesaba Railway Company.
The collection consists of a group of photographs which appear to have been made by the same photographer. The photographs are of a crew of surveyors, a group of 20 men in front of a building, a group of 13 men in front of the same building, views of a mining location, the open pit mine, work being done in the mine, a water tower being built, and one shot identified as Chisholm after the fire, 1908.
The collection contains one 16mm, black and white, silent film (17 min.) of a 1936 mining inspection trip and tour conducted by U.S. Steel and Ford, Bacon, and Davis, Inc. The tour included Duluth, Minnesota and the surrounding area including the iron range.
The collection consists of plat maps for northern St. Louis County towns on the Mesabi Iron Range, and Coleraine of Itasca County and Proctor, Minnesota. The plats are the survey results of the Fire Underwriters Inspection Bureau of Minneapolis, MN.
