The collection consists of a report compiled for Beck and Associates, Inc. of Duluth, Minnesota by Barbara Sommer. The purpose of the report was to identify historic sites on the Fond du Lac Reservation which is located in Carlton and St. Louis Counties near the town of Cloquet, Minnesota.
Historical Documentation Regarding Age of Pits, Dumps and Tailings Areas, Mesabi Iron Range, Minnesota report and research files
This report was prepared by the St. Louis County Historical Society, Duluth, Minnesota, for U.S. Bureau of Mines. The study was undertaken to inventory the pits, dumps, and tailings basins of the Mesabi Range and determine, where possible, the ages of these man-made topographic features, i.e. the date each dump or tailings basin was last disturbed by mining activity.
